Join patrons and friends of the museum on a grand tour of South Africa and Victoria Falls. The journey begins in Johannesburg with visits to Soweto and the Apartheid Museum - a must for first time visitors and veterans alike. Travel next to Cape Town by Rovos Rail - the classic, painstakingly restored luxury train from a by-gone era. Activities in and around Cape Town will in-clude, among other things, a city tour and trip up Table Mountain, a full day tour to Cape Point, a full day Cape Winelands Tour and wine tastings, and several meals at noted area restaurants. Next head to the Thornybush Game Reserve, situated adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park for three nights at Chapungu Tented camp. There will also be an optional three day exten-sion up to Zambia to take in the majesty of Victoria Falls.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 15 Arrive Johannesburg and transfer to the Michelangelo Hotel at Mandela Square. The rest of the day will be at leisure. THURSDAY, OCT. 16 Today will include a full day tour of Johannesburg and Soweto, including the Apartheid Museum and lunch at Wandies Restaurant in Soweto. Soweto (acronym for South Western Township) started as a cluster of townships that grew up outside Johannesburg in the 1930's as an urbanizing black population sought work in the big city. Inhabited by two million plus, Soweto is believed to be the largest black urban settlement in Africa and has a rich political history. If time permits, visits to the Ruth Sacks and Everard Read Museums will be made. B,L FRIDAY, OCT. 17 This morning, you will transfer to Pretoria Station for departure on the two day Rovos Rail journey to CapeTown. Long recognised as one of the world's great trains the Rovos travels through the farmlands of Gauteng, the diamond fields of Kimberley as well as the arid splendor of the Karoo. Continue through mountains, valleys and the historic colorful winelands of the Western Cape to Cape Town. B,L,D SUNDAY, OCT. 19 Upon a late afternoon arrival in Cape Town you'll transfer to the Victoria and Alfred Hotel, located on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. The evening will be at leisure. The Waterfront area is safe for walking and known for it's array of excellent shops and restaurants. B,L MONDAY, OCT. 20 Today will begin with a half day city tour, including a cable way journey up Table Mountain (weather permitting), a visit to the South African Museum, the National Art Gallery and the Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens. The balance of the day will be at your leisure. B TUESDAY, OCT. 21 You will take a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, including the Cape Point Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach to view the penguins. Take the funicular to the old lighthouse overlooking this wild coast. Cape Point Nature Reserve covers 7,750 unspoiled hectares of the southern-most part of the Cape Peninsula. Lunch today will be at the Black Marlin Restaurant. You'll be on your own for dinner. B WEDNESDAY, OCT. 22 A full day of sightseeing is planned to the Cape Winelands including two tastings, a cellar tour and a visit to the Stellenbosch Museum and Anton Rupert Gallery. A dramatic backdrop of craggy mountains and fertile valleys, covered with ever-changing colors of the vineyards, sets the scene for enjoyment and relaxation. Sample the fruit of the vine in every glass of world-renowned wines, and enjoy the culinary delights of South African cuisine for lunch at Grand Provence Restuarant. Discover the rich historical and cultural heritage of this area featuring splendid examples of Cape Dutch, Victorian and Georgian architecture. B,L THURSDAY, OCT. 23 It will be an early start today beginning with a transfer to the airport for flights up to Kruger by way of Johannesburg. The Thornybush Reserve features 11,500 hectares of pristine African Bush Bushveld.
With an abundance of bird and mammal species it is also home to Chapungu Tented Camp. Exclusivity and personalized service are hallmarks of this intimate camp. Sublime cuisine in an informal atmosphere fill your days between exciting dawn and dusk safaris; walks are also a must for the more adventurous spirits. FRIDAY & SATURDAY, OCT. 24-25 Each day at Chapungu will consist of early morning game drives, a mid-day rest and afternoon/evening game viewing. The lodge provides an ideal setting to relax while spotting game, birdwatching, or cooling off in the filtered pool. B,L,D SATURDAY, OCT. 26 After morning game viewing you will transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Johannesburg. From there you will continue homeward or onward for the Victoria Falls Extension. B EXTENSION TO VICTORIA FALLSSUNDAY, OCT. 26 Upon arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met and transferred to the Intercontinental Airport Sun Hotel. The afternoon and evening will be on your own. B MONDAY, OCT. 27 This morning, meet for your transfer to the airport for your flight to Victoria Falls. On arrival in Livingstone, Zambia, you will be met and transfer to the David Livingstone Safari Lodge and Spa, located along the banks of the Zambezi River, in close proximity to the Falls. B TUESDAY, OCT. 28 You'll head out this morning for a two-hour guided tour of the falls. Afterward embark on a scenic helicopter flight over the Falls - providing unparalleled photographic opportunity! B Day 14/ Feb 26 - Full day at leisure with several optional tours including balloon or helicopter sightseeing. Day 15/ Feb 27 - Depart Siem Reap by air for Bangkok and home. Extension trip to Luang Prabang - LaosDay 1/ Feb 27 - After breakfast, transfer to the airport for flight to Vientiane. Upon arrival at the Wattaway airport, you are welcome to Vientiane, the city of the moon - an ancient city, situated on the bend on the left bank of the Mekong as the largest city and the capital of Laos. Transfer to downtown for sightseeing of the city’s major historic sites including religious museums of Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple to have been survived from the Siamese war of 1828 and its cloister contains more than 8,000 Buddha statues; Wat Ho Prakeo, the former home-temple of the Emerald Buddha statue or Pra Keo, ; Lunch is at a local restaurant. Continue to visit That Luang Stupa, the single most important monument in Laos, which was built to cover the original small stupa, containing a piece of the chest bone of Buddha; Patouxay (Arch de Triumph), Then, transfer back to the airport for flight to Luang Prabang. Arrive into the mountain kingdom of Luang Prabang, the ancient first capital of Lane Xang kingdom, the center of religious life in Laos and today the World Heritage City. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to hotel for check-in. Day 2/ Feb 28 - Morning, take a sightseeing tour of the sacred city of temples, of which nearly fifty temples still remain in the town and surrounding areas. Visit the National Museum, the former Royal Palace which houses the collection of valuables including the famous Prabang Buddha statue, gifts received from foreign dignitaries…etc, Continue to visit Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple, which more than any temples in Luang Prabang, epitomizes all the elegance and grace of Luang Prabang architecture; H’mong market in town and also craft shops for your shopping. Climb up Phousi Hill, the 328 steps leads to the summit of Phousi Hill that dominates the sky-line of Luang Prabang overlooking the finest panoramic view in the whole Luang Prabang. The remainder of the day is free at leisure. Day 3/ Feb 29 - Morning, travel on a long-tailed boat for a few hours on the Mekong River to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves in the side of a lime stone cliff and opposite of the mouth of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. The sanctuaries at Pak Ou consist of two large caves, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images, which range from mere centimeter to two meters in height. En route, Lao typical villages are barely visible behind a screen of foliage. Slender canoes bobbing by the shore and bamboo poles and floats mark the location of nets and fish traps. Lunch at local restaurant on the bank of the Mekong River. Return to Luang Prabang by the same boat, continue by car to visit Ban Xangkhong, the well-known village for its wood paper making and also Lao silk weavings with natural dyes. Day 4/ Mar 1 - Morning, free at leisure or taking an optional tour to visit the Kuangsi Waterfall. Optional tours - Pick up at the hotel and enjoy an excursion by land (30 km South) to visit Kuangsi Waterfall, which, though not very high, is spectacular and really beautiful with its green surroundings as the preserved National Nature. En route, stop to visit Ban Na Oune, a small H’mong village and also visit Ban Tha Pane, a small village of Khmu minority group. Picnic lunch is near Kuangsi waterfall. Return to town and the remainder of the day is free at leisure.
